Wolfforth Church of Christ
We Are the Church
1 Corinthians 12:27: “Now you are the body of Christ and members individually,” Colossians 1:18: “And He is the head of the body, the church,” Ephesians 1:22-23: “And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”
The church, an English word derived from the New Testament Greek term “ekklesia,” meaning “a called-out assembly,” represents those in Christ individually, making up His body spiritually, living out His mission practically. This signifies that the church is the people, not merely a physical building.
Acts 2:46-47: “So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.”
Simply put, we meet at this building in Wolfforth, TX.
1 Thessalonians 5:11: “Therefore, comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.”
Is the candy in the bowl for me?
The candy in the candy bowl located in the lobby is for everyone, so don’t be shy.
What can I expect when I visit?
You can expect to be greeted many times before you sit down, and you can definitely sit anywhere. If you meet someone new you like, you can even sit with them. Below are the typical things we do as a church together.
- We have a few announcements (sick, traveling, upcoming events)
- We sing together.
- We pray together.
- We partake of the Lord’s Supper together.
- We lay something aside together for one another.
- We learn God’s word together.
- We offer an invitation to anyone who has a need.
- We offer the Gospel invitation to join the body of Christ.
What are your Bible class options?
On Sunday mornings, starting at 9:30, we have classes for the young, the very old, and everyone in between. The adult class meets in the back annex while the youth are in their designated classrooms off the main auditorium.
On Sunday evenings, starting at 5:00 (if it is not the 2nd Sunday of the month for potluck Sunday), we gather for devotional worship time, which includes singing, praying, the Lord’s Supper for anyone who needs it, and a lesson.
On Wednesday evenings, starting at 7:00, we meet for a few minutes of prayer and singing before we dismiss our classes. The adults stay in the auditorium while the youth go to their classrooms in the annex portion of the building.
Who adds me to the church?
- The Lord Jesus does; after all, He’s the King in His kingdom, in His church for which He died.
- Acts 2:47 – “…and the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.”
Who were those being saved?
- Those who gladly received the words from the apostle Peter’s sermon in Acts 2:14-36, with the finale that they crucified Jesus, the One whom God made both Lord and Christ.
After hearing they crucified Jesus, the long-awaited Messiah, what did they ask and what were they told to do?
- Acts 2:37 – “Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, ‘Men and brethren, what shall we do?’
- Acts 2:38 – “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
What does the Greek word “kai” mean and why is it important?
- Peter’s answer to the question of what they must do to be saved uses the Greek word “kai” (and) which has unique significance:
- Conjunction of Actions – it connects two or more elements of equal importance linking repentance and baptism together to receive the remission of sins and connects that to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
- Emphasizes Sequence – a process that leads to forgiveness of sins and reception of the Holy Spirit.
- Inclusivity – it emphasizes that each believer expects both repentance and baptism.
- The use of “kai” indicates a strong connection between repentance, baptism, and receiving the Holy Spirit, showing they are interlinked steps in the process of salvation and the entrance into the Lord’s church.
To whom was the promise given?
- Acts 2:39 – “For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
- Jews, Gentiles…everyone.
What do I do once I’m added to His church?
- Acts 2:42 – “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.”
- Revelation 2:10 – “Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.”
What if I have more questions about all this?
- Feel free to reach us through our contact page or ask any member of our congregation. We would be more than happy to study with you further.
How long has the church been around?
- In Acts 2:41, we see the first members of the kingdom; some 3,000 were added to the church on the Day of Pentecost in Jerusalem some 2,000 years ago, 1,991 to be exact (in 2024).
- Locally, a body of believers has met in the current Wolfforth building since 1963.
- The name on our building, “Church of Christ,” is not a name as it is much an identifiable description. The church is identified by many names in the New Testament.
- The Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:27)
- The Bride of Christ (Ephesians 5:25-27)
- The Church of God (1 Corinthians 1:2)
- The Household of God (Ephesians 2:19)
- The Temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:16)
- The Flock of God (1 Peter 5:2)
- The Assembly of the Saints (Hebrews 12:23)
- The Family of God (Galatians 6:10)
- The Churches of Christ (Romans 16:16)
- The name on our building, “Church of Christ,” is not a name as it is much an identifiable description. The church is identified by many names in the New Testament.
At any time, in any place, if you plant a body of Christians (the church) using the pattern given to us in the New Testament with Jesus as its head and following what He’s commanded, then you have a church ready to worship God, spread the Gospel message, and edify each other—which you will find at the Wolfforth Church of Christ.
The reality is as Christians, we believe Acts 4:12, “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved,” because Jesus said in Matthew 28:18, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth,” and that we all, according to 1 Corinthians 1:10 must “speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and the same judgment,” but a name fitting that description would be a bit lengthy.
